If you can keep your hair when all about you
Are bobbing theirs—in future to regret;
If you can leave your ears as Nature made them,
Devoid of dangling stones or twinkling jet;
If you can wear your skin without cosmetics
Or, failing this, invoke but moderate aid; ...

Ah, then, Dear Girls, the problems of the future
Will all be safe in your strong woman’s hands.

— Elizabeth Ogden Smith - Greengables, West Chester, PA

Fashion — David Bowie
Fashion — David Bowie Lyrics Fashion! Turn to the left Fashion! Turn to the right Ooh, fashion! We are the goon squad and we're coming to town ...

The fashion industry is the goon squad — conform or be ridiculed and outcast. The look of fashion sounds a lot like fascism.
Underlying fashion is Planned obsolescence — deliberate and frequent superficial design changes to induce and promote more consumer spending to drive increase in production to keep the wheels of Corporate Capitalism turning. Seasonal color change means at least 2 (spring-fall), if not 4 different complete "wardrobes" per year. Yearly style change means 2 to 4 new wardrobes every year. Hemlines up this year, down the next. Lapels and ties wide this year, narrow the next. Different colors in-out every year.
Clothing utility (to cover and protect the human body in the absence of fur, scales or feathers) remains constant, and thus exposes "fashion" for what it is — a useless, fickled, complete and total farce of urban civilization and its elite monied power, merely another way of financially exploiting people.
Traditional clothing never resorted to such inanities.

Do you think you'd ever work at the magazine with your mom? ...
I really don't wanna work in fashion. It's just not for me. I really respect her, obviously, um...
But it's a really weird industry to me, and it's just not for me.
She wants me to be an editor. I don't wanna put it down, but it's—-I would never wanna take it too seriously.
Some of the people in there act like fashion is life, and it's just—-it's really amusing,
and you can make fun of them, but for that to be your career, it's just, you know, there are other things out there, I think.

Was Vogue World Worth a $3000 Ticket?
On Monday night [Sep 12 2022], Vogue celebrated its 130th anniversary with Vogue World, a ticketed runway show and street fair in the Meatpacking District [pun intended? LOL] during New York Fashion Week. ...Anna Wintour has been editor in chief of the magazine for more than a quarter of its lifetime (34 years), so it was something of an Anna Wintour Show as well. Should anyone still question her power, she basically threw herself a parade, calling up everyone in her Rolodex for the occasion and asking them to walk past her clapping and smiling. (Emmys who?) ...
With over 100 brands involved, the event was a chance to showcase the American fashion market and for Vogue to reinforce its dominance over it — as well as its reach worldwide. Of course, it was also an opportunity to make money. Unlike with most New York Fashion Week events, guests without famous parents or millions of followers were able to buy their way into this one. A standing spot cost $130, third-row seats were $750, second row was $1,800, and the front row cost $3,000. ...
[T]his is organized chaos, because if people want to be a part of it, now they have to pay; you have to invest to see beauty.
